Overseas consumption picks up, China’s silicon metal exports surged 33% year-on-year in March [SMM Analysis]

Customs data shows that China's silicon metal exports in March 2024 were 63,900 tons, a month-on-month increase of 71% and a year-on-year increase of 33%. The cumulative export volume of silicon metal from January to March 2024 was 165,300 tons, a year-on-year increase of 12%.

Customs data shows that China's silicon metal exports in March 2024 were 63,900 tons, a month-on-month increase of 71% and a year-on-year increase of 33%. The cumulative export volume of silicon metal from January to March 2024 was 165,300 tons, a year-on-year increase of 12%.

In March 2024, China's silicon metal imports were 1,300 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 66% and a year-on-year increase of 332%. The cumulative import volume of silicon metal from January to March 2024 was 6,300 tons, a year-on-year increase of 757%.

Those exports were shipped to 47 countries and regions in March. Export volume to the top ten importing countries was 54,000 tons, accounting for 84.1%. The top five export destination countries were Japan, India, South Korea, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates, with a total export volume of 59.2%.

In March, China’s exports of silicon metal increased by 33% year-on-year, mainly driven by the UAE, India, the Netherlands and Japan. The month-on-month increase in March was 71%, due to shipments of new orders after the Chinese New Year holiday.
